About Him:
How it happened:
WOODBRIDGE, Va. -- Family and friends are mourning a 17-year-old junior at Potomac Senior High School who was killed in a car crash in Woodbridge on Saturday.
A vigil was held for Owais Mubasher Javed at Potomac on Monday. His locker was covered with condolences.
Prince William County police said Javed drove off Jefferson Davis Highway on Saturday night and then overcorrected, crossed the center line and collided with another car.Police said Javed was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
Javed was a member of the football team. Teachers said he was also a good student who took college-credit courses. "He had no qualms about just walking up to people, 'Hey, I'm Owais,'" said teacher Cullen Nolan. "Within 10 minutes, people are laughing. He was a funny guy." "It was almost very deceptive, because he was a very intelligent student, but he chose, to his friends, to appear more like the funny guy," Nolan said. "To his teachers, we knew him more as, you know, the intelligent student." "He made everybody laugh. He was a good person. He was a really hardworking, honest person," said Faad Shaikh, Javed's friend. "He was having a good life. He was happy."
Many students paid respects to Javed's family, Pakistani immigrants who Owais helped support by working a full-time job while his father recovers from back surgery.
"He was always taking care of me. He was a very hard worker," said his father, Mubafher Javed. "He had really high grade in school -- A-plus, B -- and also was working and making money and supporting home."
"He's dearly missed, and I ask everyone to just pray for him and pray for our family, because we're going through a very tough time right now," said Shams Javed, the victim's brother.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday night in Springfield. Javed will be buried in Pakistan.
Prince William County authorities are still investigating the crash. They said alcohol was not a factor. The driver of the other car was severely injured. He was identified as a 54-year-old man from Fredericksburg.

I find myself searching for stories about you on computer screens and what not, just to keep your personality fresh in my mind....but how could anyone forget it? always thinking of you man, your close friend and true brother......."-Chris cummings
